Ice Cream

Ice cream anyone?

I recently had the opportunity to try a new line of premium ice creams from Purely Decadent that are hitting the market, and boy are they good! The ice creams are non-dairy, rich, creamy and delicious, yet aren't total diet busters. The base of the ice cream is coconut milk, which gives you a wonderfully silky texture and clean taste. In fact, my daughter and I both thought that there was almost a marshmallow flavor to it. Yum!! The ice creams come in five flavors, although I only tried the vanilla, chocolate and coconut. I think there's also cookie dough and mint chip. They are perfect flavors for eating with a spoon, ice cream sundaes, topping summer pies or making refreshing root beer or soda floats. Hello! You've got to give these ice creams a try.

I think they're available in a couple of stores at the moment, Whole Foods being one of them. I can't wait until there are more flavors to choose from. These non-beany, creamy ice creams were a quick hit in my house. Now I just need to replenish my stock. Time to go shopping...

Sounds just right for this hot weather we're having! Maybe as a filler for a vegan ice cream cookie sandwich? :)

Shellyfish, I wish we were had some warm sunny weather. It's been very wet and cloudy in the Pacific Northwest. The ice cream does seem to help though! I love your idea for using it as a filling for ice cream sandwiches. It would be delish!

We had the cookie dough flavor this weekend and it is perfect. I can't wait to try more flavors. Oh, and all of you out there who can't have gluten, the cookie dough flavor is gluten free!

I've been enjoying coconut milk vegan ice cream from a local company, Nada Moo, for the past year. I have a soy intolerance so I'm thrilled to have another option. Look for Nada Moo in Whole Foods. They are trying to go nationwide.

Oh! How exciting! Just wondering- does it have a noticeable coconut flavor?

Too weird! I saw a different but new coconut milk-based ice cream at Whole Foods this week. But I'm so excited about this new Purely Decadent line! Thanks for letting us know about it -- you are too lucky for getting to taste-test! Guess I'm going to have to go back to Whole Foods and see if I can score some myself. ;)

Hi Hannah. I can't wait to read your review on them. We really enjoyed them.

Hi Julie. You should definitely give it a try.

Melody, My thoughts exactly!

Hey Mel. Yeah, I need to replenish my stash stat!

Veg-a-nut, the cookie dough flavor sounds so good. I can't wait to try it.

Hi Atxvegn. I haven't seen Nada Moo, but I'll have to keep my eyes open for it.

Animal-friendly, only the coconut had a pronounced coconut flavor. It was fairly subtle in the other flavors, or at least the ones that I tried. I can't speak for the cookie dough or mint chip.

Hi Ruby Red Vegan. Yeah, I never argue about taste testing ice cream. It's a tough job...

There goes my diet Julie! You're cruel! :-) DH would love it since he has never liked any vegan ice cream because it's not fatty enough for him. Thanks for this blog! I am just kidding....

BTW, I got the mixer ok but don't have time to make anything yet. I have to 'work' to help pay for it. :-) I might try Sin Dawg bread using the mixer. Looks very interesting!
