Blackberry Soda

There is nothing like the fresh flavor of homemade soda! We usually have a pretty big stash of frozen berries, and the berry syrup to make this soda is easy-peasy - just the ticket on a hot summer day. You could also use the syrup for pancakes, waffles or homemade snow cones. The recipe and video are up on Everyday Dish. Feel free to substitute another berry for the blackberries, depending on what you have.

If you're into bubbly water or homemade soda, check out this toy. I love it, love that you can reuse the bottles so they don't wind up in landfills, and that it works out to 18 cents a liter. Not bad, and so much fun!

Anyways, check out the recipe for a fun and delicious treat.

That looks so refreshing and delicious! I remember making a very similar soda when I was little (it ended in lots of stains on my white t-shirt....) and I don't know why I haven't made it since!

Thanks, Julie :) Oddly enough, I took a batch up to Portland a few weeks ago when I visited a friend. They didn't last very long, though.

Hi animal-friendly. Yeah, blackberries can definitely stain, but they taste so good! You should definitely revisit the homemade soda.

Hey Melisser! Thanks. It was very yummy!

Hi jennshaggy. I think I'm going to have to bake some myself, since they are available to buy here yet. I hope you had a good time in Portland!

Hi Carrie. Thanks! It was so easy to make, and is very refreshing!

Hi Urban Vegan! Thanks. I've been playing around with my new camera, and having lots of fun. I also love the soda with a little soy milk or creamer, as a true Italian soda.

This looks really good. I found a new soda called Zivia, which of course is hard to find and expensive. It is made with stevia. I wonder if you could do your recipe with stevia? What do you think?

Hi Veg-a-nut! Although this particular recipe wouldn't work with stevia, you should be able to do something similar. If you made a berry puree, you could probably sweeten to taste with stevia and stir some into bubbly water. Make sure to strain your berry puree though, so you don't wind up with seeds.
