Food

First up, I have a new recipe on everyday dish (Spicy Italian Parmesano). It uses cutlets (made from the sausage recipe, and seen above), which are breaded in panko and pan-fried, layered with a garlicky tomato sauce, sprinkled with vegan Parmesan or cheeze and broiled until bubbly. It's a really delish dish, and one that we've been making often. Oh, and if you haven't tried it already, you've got to try the Parmesan recipe from Joanna's Yellow Rose Recipes. It's unbelievably good!

I've been cooking up some new recipes for the show. We'll probably start filming again next week, which will be fun in the newly yellow and cheery kitchen. If anyone has ideas of segments that you would like to see or find useful, please don't hesitate to share.

Has anyone checked out the lovely looking cakes on Joni's Just The Food blog? I know I'll be baking up a batch, though I can't decide between the lemon poppyseed and the espresso (really how could you go wrong with either?). Being the cool person that Joni is, she even included a beautiful label that you can print out for the cakes if you plan on giving them as gifts.

Although I often forget to snap a picture of the different meals I make, here's one that I remembered to take. It's Melisser's Jackfruit Carnitas, which were awesome. This dish is so good, and I love that something as simple as fruit can cook up into a lavish looking dish. I've noticed a few bloggers cooking the jackfruit with BBQ sauce too, which is next on my list to try.

Thanks for everyone's awesome comments on the kitchen.

Happy cooking!

Julie

I'm so glad you liked the jackfruit tacos, I really need to post that recipe!

omigoodness...those cutlets look (and sound) amazing! if i didn't already commit to the burritos from the local mexican joint for our romantic valentine dinner, i would have definitely made these! i guess it'll have to wait for the weekend. and, yes, joanna's parm recipe rocks my socks. oh, and thanks for the love! happy v-day!

the parm sounds great and i'm intrigued by the jackfruit--i've never seen it for sale around here...maybe it's availability is another benefit of west coast livin'?

How do you steam the cutlets? Do you wrap them or stack?

Hi Emilie,

I found the jackfruit in cans at our local Asian supermarket. I've heard that some people are lucky enough to find it fresh at farmer's markets, but I've only seen it in cans.

Hi Wendy. I place a couple cutlets on each piece of foil and then stack them in my steamer, carefully so that I don't plug all of the steam wholes.
